Groovy Hideaway
About this home
On a large corner lot with few homes nearby, this home has a groovy 70s feel with a beamed ceiling, angled picture windows, playful furnishings, and multiple lounging sofas and woodburning stove with wrap around glass front. A large lawn area and patio with firepit and huge deck w mountain view that offers spectacular star gazing in lay-flat lounge chairs. A stylish kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances and abundant cooking equipment makes home cooking fun, and wonderful nearby restaurants provide many choices including Thai, Mexican, New York Pizza, and TopSecret Ice cream! Stylish renovated bathrooms, three new queen mattresses, and ultra high speed internet make for high comfort and convenience. Three floors, each with a full bathroom, means it can host a crowd and still feel separated. Located 5 minutes drive to the Franconia Notch attractions that include the Flume, the Basin, and Echo Lake recreation area (swimming and boat rentals), and what is widely regarded as the best day-hikes in the region. The Appalachian trail traverses the notch, and if you hike up to backcountry huts Lonesome Lake or Greenleaf late in the day, you may catch a glimpse of 1,000-mile through-hikers on their last 100 miles. If you want to experience backcountry overnights, we highly recommend a stay at those (Lonesome, Zealand, Galen, or Greenleaf make good combinations in hut-to-hut routes) and signing up early. There is a huge sunny deck, an outdoor patio with fire pit (kettle BBQ available), and a large mowed field for dogs (extra fee) and kids. From the deck, you can hear a rushing brook and almost no cars, yet be a convenient 3 minutes off the highway and 2 miles from the quaint yet lively tiny town of Franconia. New Hampshire hiking is on well-worn but rough and sometimes steep historic trails, with many waterfalls and swirling granite pools for unique north country cold water fun. For those who seek a warm pond, directions are provided in the house to a local pond next town over that is shallow, warm, and perfect for the youngest kids. With real bookstores and quirky one of a kind shops, the Colonial Theater for events, and a steady stream of small summer festivals, here you can get away from it all, but still find great diversions. Franconia's local pub was the subject of a recent ‘Restaurant Impossible' episode after a top Brooklyn chef moved here for the quiet life and to manage a smaller space. This is part of a dining revival throughout the area, with a range of exceptional summer dining options from new breweries to outstanding Thai food, to brick oven pizzerias in an old watermill on the river, and the incomparable institution Polly’s Pancake Parlor with its incredible views and wait staff that memorizes and prepares complex orders with perfection. Local shopping is an attraction on its own. Just 15 minutes north in Littleton (one of Top 10 Main streets in America) you will find one of a kind stores from housewares to clothing to vintage records and furniture. **THINGS TO KNOW** This vacation rental is not equipped with air-conditioning.
