Sugarbush spans two mountains in Vermont’s Mad River Valley, Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen. They’re separated by Slide Brook Basin, an ungroomed 2,000-acre wilderness that a two-mile chairlift flies directly over.

Its visitors enjoy some of the most demanding terrain in the East paired with two distinct base areas, premier accommodations, and the villages of Warren and Waitsfield nearby. Lincoln Peak is the main hub, holding 72 of the resort’s 111 trails along with the village, ski school, and rentals—plus Castlerock, a preserve of narrow, steep, winding trails served by a slow double chair that deliberately limits how many skiers get in. Mt. Ellen is quieter and more understated, with wide cruisers, strong intermediate terrain, the Riemergasse Terrain Park, and a rustic base lodge. Twenty-eight marked tree areas run across both. Between them sits Slide Brook Basin, ungroomed and unpatrolled, where skiers ride a shuttle back to the base when they come out the bottom.
