The largest vertical drop in southern Vermont

Ludlow is a nineteenth-century mill village on the Black River in south-central Vermont, built around Okemo Mountain, a family-run favorite for generations and now one of the East's best-known ski resorts.

The mountain runs 2,200 feet of vertical, the largest drop in southern Vermont, across 667 acres and 123 trails from a 3,344-foot summit. Difficulty is split close to evenly between novice, intermediate, and advanced, which is unusual and part of why families keep returning. Twenty-one chairlifts and seven surface lifts serve it, including two high-speed six-packs, one of them with a bubble and heated seats. Vail Resorts bought Okemo in 2018, and it is one of three Vermont ski areas on the Epic Pass, alongside Mount Snow and Stowe.

Ludlow is a working village rather than a purpose-built resort town: a Main Street with restaurants, shops, and cafes within a short walk of each other. The resort runs a shuttle from several in-town locations, so you are not stranded without a car, though most guests bring one to reach the rest of the region. Boston is about two and a half hours away, Hartford about two and a quarter, and New York City roughly four and a half.
