Two mountains, one valley, and no sales tax
Attitash in Bartlett and Cranmore in North Conway are the two ski areas of the Mount Washington Valley, minutes apart, and plenty of visitors ski both on one trip.
Attitash is the bigger of the two: 311 acres, 68 trails, and 1,750 feet of vertical on US Route 302 in Bartlett, with more than 60 acres of tree skiing and 23 miles of trails. It is a Vail Resorts mountain and runs on the Epic Pass, along with nearby Wildcat. Cranmore, in North Conway, covers more than 170 acres with 56 trails and glades and a 1,200-foot vertical, served by seven lifts. It is independently owned and on neither Epic nor Ikon, so the two mountains take different tickets.
North Conway is the valley's town, and it is a shopping destination as much as a ski one: Settlers Green Outlet Village holds more than 60 stores, and New Hampshire charges no sales tax. Boston is about 130 miles away by I-95, the Spaulding Turnpike, and Route 302, and Portland International Jetport is roughly 70 miles and an hour and 15 minutes from North Conway. In summer, Cranmore runs a mountain coaster, a giant swing, and a lift-served bike park.
