Stratton covers more than 600 acres across roughly 97 trails, rising 2,003 vertical feet from base to summit. Beginners get something unusual here: a green run all the way from the top. Intermediates have long groomed cruisers, and advanced skiers head for World Cup, Bear Down, and well over 100 acres of glades. The Sun Bowl on the far side has its own base lodge, slopeside parking, and two high-speed six-packs. In the cobblestoned and compact village at the base, cafés and après patios stay busy well after the lifts stop. ## Everything you need to know ### How do I get to Stratton? Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport (RUT) is closest at around 45 minutes by car, though service is limited to a few daily Cape Air flights from Boston. Albany International Airport (ALB) is the closest major airport at about 90 minutes, Bradley International Airport (BDL) near Hartford is roughly two hours, Burlington (BVT) two and a half, and Boston Logan (BOS) about three. The resort access road runs off Route 30 in Bondville, next to the 7-Eleven. Stratton also has a helipad, with charter service available from Manhattan. ### How far is Stratton from New York and Boston? New York is about four hours by car, roughly 215 miles, typically via I-87 to Albany then east into southern Vermont. Boston is about three hours. That proximity is a major draw, and it also means weekends and holidays run busier than midweek. ### Can I get to Stratton without a car? Yes. The Stratton Jitney runs direct bus service from Manhattan to the resort. Once you’re in the area, the MOOver, southern Vermont’s fare-free transit system, runs between Manchester and Stratton four to eight times daily, and connects onward to buses serving Rutland, Bennington, and Albany. ### Is there a shuttle at the resort? Yes, and it’s free. A complimentary shuttle runs throughout the day connecting parking, the base area, the village, and lodging around the mountain. Some individual properties run their own shuttles as well. If you’re staying in the village, dining, shopping, and the lifts are all walkable. ### How big is Stratton? Stratton covers more than 600 skiable acres across roughly 97 trails and 38 miles of terrain. The summit reaches 3,875 feet, the highest peak in southern Vermont, with 2,003 feet of vertical from a base at 1,872 feet. Uphill capacity runs above 33,000 skiers per hour. ### Can beginners ski Stratton? Yes, and unusually well. Stratton has a green run that descends all the way from the summit, which is rare: most mountains make beginners download or navigate harder terrain to get back. There are also dedicated learning areas with covered carpet lifts. ### Is Stratton good for advanced skiers? Yes, though it’s known more for grooming than for extremes. Steeper trails include World Cup, Bear Down, and Upper Downeaster, and the glade network runs well over 100 acres and is considered among the best in New England. The Sun Bowl side holds additional advanced terrain. ### What is the Sun Bowl? A separate area on the far side of the mountain with its own base lodge, slopeside parking, and two high-speed six-passenger lifts. It’s generally quieter than the main base, and it also holds a four-lane tubing park with a warming hut and fire pit. ### What is Stratton Village like? A compact, cobblestoned pedestrian village built as part of the resort rather than a historic town that grew around it. It holds restaurants, cafés, shops, and ski-in/ski-out lodging, and everything is walkable. Bondville and Manchester are nearby for additional dining and shopping. ### Why is Stratton associated with snowboarding? Jake Burton Carpenter built his early board prototypes in the basement of the Birkenhaus hotel here while working upstairs as a bartender. In 1983 Stratton became one of the first major resorts to allow snowboarders on its lifts, then opened the world’s first snowboard school. It hosted the U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships for more than two decades. ## All homes in Stratton - [Founders Lodge 209](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088883) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [Long Trail House - 230](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088878) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Long Trail House 368](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088799) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [Long Trail House 459](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088958) · sleeps 4 - [Ober Tal Getaway](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088880) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [Ski Happy](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088256) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Slopeside A2](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088917) · 4 bd · sleeps 8 - [Special Guest Stratton](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1145954) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Stratton Ski & Tee](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1121140) · 4 bd · sleeps 8 - [Styles Brook Retreat](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088904) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Vantage Point #7](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088907) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Vantage Point #8](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088893) · 2 bd · sleeps 7 - [Vermont Mountain Chalet](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088896) · 3 bd · sleeps 10 --- For photos, current rates and availability, see the page: https://www.firstchair.com/destinations/vermont/stratton-manchester
