Its visitors enjoy four distinct mountain faces paired with a walkable base area, premier accommodations, and the shortest drive to Vermont skiing from Boston or New York. Mount Snow covers 601 acres across 86 trails, and each face does a different job: the Main Face holds the learning terrain and ski school, Sunbrook runs long scenic blues, the North Face carries the steepest skiing on the mountain, and Carinthia is nothing but parks: eight of them across 100 acres, with rails, jumps, a superpipe, and a base lodge of its own. It’s the only East Coast park to have hosted the Winter X Games. In the valley below, Wilmington sits fifteen minutes away with a classic Vermont dining and après scene. ## Everything you need to know ### How do I get to Mount Snow? Most visitors drive. Albany International Airport (ALB) is the closest major airport at about 67 miles, roughly an hour and 40 minutes by car. Bradley International (BDL) near Hartford is another option. From I-91, take Exit 2 to VT-9 West through Wilmington, then VT-100 North to West Dover. ### How far is Mount Snow from Boston or New York? Boston is about two and a half hours, New York roughly four. Mount Snow sits near the Massachusetts border at the southern end of the Green Mountains, which makes it the closest Vermont resort above 3,000 feet to both metro areas. Weekends are busier than midweek as a result. ### Can I get to Mount Snow without a car? Yes, with planning. Amtrak’s Vermonter serves Brattleboro, and the Ethan Allen Express reaches Rensselaer near Albany. Greyhound and Vermont Transit also serve Brattleboro, with round-trip shuttles to the resort available on request. Seasonal bus services run directly from New York City. ### Do I need a rental car at Mount Snow? Most visitors bring one. West Dover and Wilmington are a short drive from the base rather than a walk, and there is no pedestrian village at the lifts. ### Is there a free shuttle at the resort? Yes. The MOOver runs free service throughout the Mount Snow Valley, connecting lodging, Wilmington, West Dover, and the resort. It’s useful if you’re staying in the valley and would rather not drive to the mountain each morning. ### What is Carinthia? An entire mountain face given over to terrain parks, the first setup of its kind on the East Coast. It holds roughly 100 acres across eight parks, with rails, jumps, a superpipe, and its own base lodge. Carinthia hosted the Winter X Games in 2000 and 2001, the only East Coast park to do so. ### Is Carinthia only for experts? No, the parks are built for progression. Grommet is the beginner park, with extra-small features and its own covered surface lift for first-timers. From there the parks scale up through mid-sized setups to Inferno, which carries extra-large rails and jumps upward of 70 feet and is for experienced riders only. ### Where should I stay near Mount Snow? West Dover sits at the base of the access road, and Wilmington is the other village serving the area. Both are small, so most visitors rent a home and drive a few minutes to the lifts. ### What are Mount Snow’s four faces? The Main Face holds the ski school, learning terrain, and the main base area. Sunbrook runs long scenic blue cruisers. The North Face carries the steepest skiing on the mountain. Carinthia is the all-park face. Spreading skiers across four areas helps keep crowds manageable. ### How big is Mount Snow? Mount Snow covers 601 skiable acres across 86 trails, served by 19 lifts. The summit reaches 3,600 feet from a 1,900-foot base, giving 1,700 feet of vertical. The Bluebird Express, a six-passenger bubble chair, runs to the summit. ### Can beginners ski Mount Snow? Yes. The Main Face holds dedicated learning terrain and the ski school, with magic carpets for first-timers. About 16% of the mountain is rated beginner. Two-thirds is intermediate, so new skiers progress onto blue terrain quickly here. ### What’s nearby off the mountain? Wilmington sits about 15 minutes away with a classic Vermont dining and après scene, plus shops and inns. West Dover has lodging and restaurants closer to the base. The resort itself has dining, retail, childcare, and a spa at the main base area. ## All homes in Dover - [17A Mountain Village #241](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088757) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [5B Mountain Village- Unit B](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088755) · sleeps 2 - [Ahmeek Retreat](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088748) · 4 bd · sleeps 8 - [All Season Mountain Retreat](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088699) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [Buckboard Haven](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088815) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Deer Creek 8A](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088760) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Glorious Scenery](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088726) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Green Mountain Sunrise](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088739) · 3 bd · sleeps 7 - [Grouse Lane 12C](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088946) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Modern Mountain Homestead](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088731) · 4 bd · sleeps 8 - [Mountain Village #5H](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088721) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Mountain Village 5H Unit A](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088730) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [Mountain Village 5H Unit B](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088728) · 1 bd · sleeps 2 - [Rustic Cozy Townhome](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088738) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Ski Dreams](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088745) · 4 bd · sleeps 8 - [Ski Haus Retreat - Unit A](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088752) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Ski Haus Retreat - Unit B](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088756) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Skiing Haven](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088724) · 2 bd · sleeps 7 - [Snow Mountain Village 13A](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088743) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Snow Mountain Village 13F](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088740) · 2 bd · sleeps 6 - [Snow Mountain Village 36D](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088751) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Snow Tree 32A](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088723) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 - [Snow Tree 337H](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088747) · 2 bd · sleeps 4 - [Suntec Getaway](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088725) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [The Seasons G27](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088714) · 1 bd · sleeps 4 - [The Seasons H23](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1088706) · 3 bd · sleeps 8 - [Traveler's Rest Snow Mountain Village](https://www.firstchair.com/property/1101611) · 2 bd · sleeps 8 --- For photos, current rates and availability, see the page: https://www.firstchair.com/destinations/vermont/dover-wilmington
